Rest in Peace, America

Breaking news: To the surprise of almost no one, it has been verified that the Republican Party had surgery performed sometime back in the seventies, to remove any and all vestiges of either empathy or compassion, from their platform.

Compassion, the feeling of wanting to help someone who is sick, hungry or in trouble, and empathy, the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing, have been missing in action for decades now, prompting the investigation into their whereabouts.

At first it was just assumed that they had gone off on a binge, prompted by events beyond their control. You had Tricky Dick Nixon orchestrating the removal of the ban on profiting from health-care, and you had Ronnie Ray-Gun implementing the trickle-down tax debacle, both designed to harpoon the aforementioned compassion and empathy.
Like I care about your sick child?

Profit off of those who are sick? Is that what made this country great? Lower taxes of the wealthy, so as create the One Percenters? Is that what our forefathers meant, when they talked about “…of the people, by the people and for the people?”

No, that would be the Democratic Party, the one which attempts to level the playing field, so that those who are struggling, have the opportunity to recover. Do you think it was the Democratic Party that just lowered the minimum wage in Missouri?

As incomprehensible as it must seem to those impacted, the Republican Party is trying to extract blood from a turnip. Unfortunately, the blood is being extracted from those who have the misfortune to reside in Missouri. Sucks to be you.

A lack of empathy and compassion leads to hypocritical boors like Chris Christie, ordering the closing of public beaches, due to budget constraints, and then taking himself and his family to one of those same beaches, to enjoy it all by themselves. Then he gets incensed incensed at being outed.

The healthcare joke, where citizens have one health policy, while elected leaders have a different one, further emphasizes the death of empathy and compassion. It’s OK for poor elderly to starve to death, as long as those who are rich and elderly, are living in style.

The lack of term limits for those in power, the foul stench of political corruption and the ever-increasing coffers of the 400 richest people in the world, all combine to ensure that the status quo is pretty much set in concrete.

The one chance to possibly reverse this morass, Bernie Sanders, is sitting on the sidelines.

It seems appropriate that the Fourth of July should be the date for officially declaring what has become self-evident: The home of the brave and the land of the free has officially passed away, to be replaced by one run by compassionless and cold-hearted orbs.

Rest in peace: America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. You had a good run but it’s finished, over a long time ago.
Self-explanatory...
