Random Ripples on the Pond of a Befuddled Blogger

Random Ripples on the Pond of a  Befuddled Blogger:
Joining a new site should be easy, but for me, it’s not.  What’s up with that?
Length of a post should be entirely irrelevant.  If you do not have time to read it, move on.
Mutual respect is a given; what a refreshing thing to be able to say.
Appreciation for each other’s work abounds.
Writing prompts are like any tool: if you need them, it’s nice to have them.  If you don’t need them, then they remain in your tool-belt for that time when you do need them.
I find it incredibly challenging to keep track of pertinent particles of knowledge.  Which blog was it that had that comment, that related to that other post, that I was reading to Annie, the day that TangledLou wrote that piece on “Housekeeping?”
It’s not hard to figure out what to say; what’s hard is expressing it on the screen, the way it appears in my head.
In writing, “voice” is either the easiest skill to acquire, or the hardest.
The ease with which one writes, is directly proportional to the amount of reading the writer has done, in his or her lifetime.
“Comments” are to blogs what “letters to the editor” are to newspapers.
Book clubs are fun, but the logistics are a royal pain.  Blogging has all of the benefits (except for the baked goodies) without the detractions.
Exchange of ideas and philosophy, is the height of civilized existence.  Playing bridge is a close second.
Comments are the icing on the cake that is a blog site.
Using another’s post, as a source of inspiration, especially for doing a piece of writing, is not only acceptable, it is commendable.  We are each a source of inspiration to the others.
Speaking for myself, I write a lot and I post every day.  I never have ANY expectations of others’ involvement in my writing.  Some people block time on different days for different sites, so there need not be any sense of continuity.  Some may find that after reading the piece, there is insufficient time to respond.  It’s all good.
And someone has got to help me out here.  I continue to sail through the verification word process, flawlessly, ever since I wrote the piece on VW’s.*  I can’t make this up.
I feel as though, without ever having met a single one of you, except for Sebtown, that I could write a personality description of each of you, that would allow anyone to mix and match, even though I would withhold name, location, and field of employment.
The decision as to whether to respond to comments or not, is often purely logistical, with time being the key component in the equation.
And how many supportive and downright kind things, does one person have to write to another, before that person can be classified as a friend, and not an acquaintance?

  1. You covered a lot of the ramblings going on in my head about blogging, Mark. I'll pick one at random to focus on:
"Using another’s post, as a source of inspiration, especially for doing a piece of writing, is not only acceptable, it is commendable. We are each a source of inspiration to the others."
A newbie at blogging, I had no idea how often the inspiration bird would fly around and around. Fun and fascinating to see.
    And...
I have to go read your WV piece, since I am baffled and annoyed with WV every day!

  2. Glad you agree. And it's so neat to gain acknowledgment from the person, from whom you were inspired. I am so glad you post daily.

  3. "I feel as though, without ever having met a single one of you, except for Sebtown, that I could write a personality description of each of you" - this is intriguing to me. You should probably expand on this.

  4. I agree with TangledLou....that is very intriguing! Comments left on my blog are devoured by my family. They think it is fascinating that I know so many new people!

I think you've boiled the writer's curse down to a succinct sentence right here. May have to this for something I've been working on--proper credit given, of course. ;)

  6. I am good at scrawling offerings, but every once in a while I get lucky, and something comes out the way I intended.

If I have prompted something in you, then it's "turn about is fair play."

  7. How does one get through the day with a fricking headache - I've had it. FRIED - in oil - and I don't even like stuff that is FRIED. Oh, that's right - how much do I like myself right now? let's just leave that one alone.

and the WV issues simply traveled from you to me.

I don't think friendship is determined by kind comments so much as by real comments - revealing oneself and trusting others to take those revelations and not dis you.

Playing bridge seems to engender serious disagreements in some quarters. I won't go there. But then I won't play team sports either.....

    I do love you.

  8. Sorry, no point of reference on the headache, except to ache for you.

No, that's VW issue, and I thought VW's were you specialty. "Piffy" was a VW and Oskar is a VW…

Friendship is a stew with many ingredients…

OK, In playing bridge, one aspires to be civilized. Allow me to assure you, there was a point when playing four hands of bridge with my three sons, was the height of civilization. Unfortunately, we plateaued there for many a game, before moving onward. A cement water tank is not built in a day...

  9. STUPID WV issues - the loop that I got into last night was the frosting on the cake of frustration
Oh yes, VW's are my thing - Beetles specifically - one of these days I am going to test drive the new ones - they have upgraded the new new Beetle - but test drive is just that - a test to play with it - ALgernon PFY was my first boyfriend - I appreciated him so much - Oskar is my playmate now b/c I can't marry him - already married, you see.

  10. Yes, well I'm glad we cleared that up, as to why you couldn't marry Oskar. Interesting that the subject of Oskar being an automobile did not come up in the conversation…

My experience with test driving new models is that it can be hazardous. I keep my eyes to myself and do not send out mixed signals, so there is never any confusion.
